We cook using the old fashioned charcoal... nothing tastes quite as good as a burger cooked on the grill... yum!

Spent several hours this evening at the local GOP office, candidates are filing now to run for office. We had a very quiet evening as no candidates came by, and nobody called. So my fellow volunteer worker and I spent the evening swapping stories... what a delightful person she is... I haven't laughed so much in a very long time... I hope she and I will get to work together again.

This is a little family story, I just had to save for my grandchildren to enjoy years from now. I doubt there will be Tonka trucks in the future, there are no trucks like my brothers had even now... they were tough, metal, indestructible... today they are mostly plastic. My brother is very creative and artistic today, he actually sells his art work... I thought he'd be a writer or a lawyer, or maybe a politician... he can spin a story.

We have an EVIL squirrel in the back yard, he throws nuts at the dogs to taunt them... they can be having a nap, and bam, the little devil beans them from above and sets them to barking and trying to climb the tree. I saw him tonight as I was cooking dinner, the dogs were all in the house so he came down and went to get a drink out of their water bowl... he is HUGE, as big as a cat that squirrel is.

Drove to DC yesterday, today took the Metro train into the city for the TeaParty/FreedomWorks rally at the Capitol. Henry Brown my Congressman arranged a tour of the House of Representatives for me. It was well worth the time and trouble to see... and having a staff member led tour was the way to do it.

Breakfast meeting this morning, listening to the candidates for the SC School Superintendent. Ron and I agreed on who we'll support. Hockey game tonight, Rays secured a play off position by finishing the game in a tie, even though they lost in overtime... arghh..

Chic-fil-a is one of my favorite places to eat. Started in my home town Atlanta Georgia, in 1946 by Truett Cathy. They moved into Greenbriar Mall and were always considered a great place to work, because they aren't open on Sunday's and they treat their employees right. I don't think there are many Chic-fil-a restaurants outside of the Southeast, but if you visit here, give them a try.

I do enjoy these trips... and feel a sense of accomplishment. That we've done some small part of preserving the forest for others to enjoy for years to come. The forest service needs volunteers to make up for all the budget cuts they have faced the past few years.

We're headed to North Carolina tomorrow, to work in the Uwharrie National Forest putting up guard rails, picking up trash and whatever else they want us to do... our Jeep club has adopted a OHV (off highway Vehicle) trail in the park up there and we go up there to work several times a year. It's a lot of work, but it is worth it to have a great place to go and enjoy our Jeeps and the outdoors. I may not be able to update my blog until I get home on Sunday evening.. I'll catch up then.

Now about that Toucan... Winna wanted me to draw my Scarlett Macaw "Rico"... and I did try... but I couldn't get it right... so I did the Toucan instead... I'll keep working on a Macaw... until one is fit to publish.
